Synopsis
Dylan, a lonely man in his mid 20’s, is tired of his routine office job and his pessimistic view of life is only increased by inter-office pressures and the hatred he feels for his boss, Matthew. One routine day Dylan accidentally gets hold of a co-worker’s inter-mail. Dylan decides to re-deliver the mail himself and discovers that it belongs to Charlotte, a pretty lady in her mid 20’s.
Dylan and Charlotte quickly become acquaintances and grow fond of each other. However, Dylan’s delicate mental state pushes him to think Charlotte is cheating on him with Matthew. Despite Charlotte’s explanations of her innocent meetings with Matthew, Dylan becomes insanely jealous and develops anger towards both of them. Dylan’s weakening mental state reaches a new height when he finds Charlotte and Matthew secretly conversing in Matthew’s office. Dylan is blinded by jealousy resulting in tragic events.
The Project
Chance is a story about the mundane modern life routine that most people find themselves living. The consequences of this modern lifestyle can often lead people to a fragile mental state. Chance is a cynical criticism of the forced societies that exist in an office environment. The story also deals with the underlying concept that everything in life occurs by chance; exploring this concept in relation to the process of cause and effect
In terms of the visual style, Chance will be highly influenced by the works of Stanley Kubrick (namely The Shining (1980)). As well as being visually influential, Terry Gilliam’s Brazil (1985) serves as an inspiration to the story of Chance, as it explores the concept that small occurrences trigger major events.

Character BreakdownDylanDylan grew up in a small village in South England. He was raised by his father; a man who worked too many hours and drunk heavily, neglecting his son and leaving him in the care of his grandmother. At the age of 18 Dylan moved out of his father’s house and in to student accommodations. Throughout his university education he worked hard to pay his expenses and fees, sacrificing his social life. When he turned 22 Dylan was accepted as an intern in a publishing company in London. During his time as an intern he found it twice as hard to pay for his living expenses in London. After 6 months he managed to secure a permanent job in the company; however, the amount of hours and workload held him back from living the life he had always wanted. Now 24 years old, Dylan feels trapped in a world where work has taken over any satisfaction in his life.
Matthew
Matthew grew up in a middle class neighbourhood in London. He was raised by both parents who took care of him and made sure that his education was priority number one. At the age of 10 Matthew met Charlotte who moved to the neighbourhood when she was 7 year old. Matthew and Charlotte have been very close friends since then. They attended the same school and when they became teenagers romance blossomed between them but their love and respect for each other as friends was stronger than that of lovers. Matthew was always involved in school activities and his academic success continued when he graduated from a prestigious university in business management. Once graduated, his father got him a position in a publishing company run by a family friend and within months Matthew was promoted to area manager, making him the youngest area manager in the history of the company. He is athletic, loves cars and going out with friends. During the past 6 months he has been dating a young girl named Mia. He feels so happy with her that he is planning on proposing marriage.CharlotteCharlotte spent her early childhood in the outskirts of Buckinghamshire, but later moved to London. At the age of 7 Charlotte met her next door neighbour Matthew who was 10 years old. They attended the same school and when they became teenagers romance blossomed between them but their love and respect for each other as friends was stronger than that of lovers. When Charlotte was at university she was always involved in dance and sport activities. On graduating from university, Matthew got her a job in the same company he worked for. Charlotte is now 24 years old. She lives in her own flat in Chelsea and enjoys going to the gym every morning before work and spending time with her friends.
